SMS | Parent Update for the Week of January 14 -18

January 14, 2019By Streetsboro Middle SchoolMiddle School News

Dear Streetsboro Middle School Families and Friends,

I hope everyone enjoyed the snowy weekend. It seems that winter has finally arrived and plans to stay for a little while. As we begin this new year and winter season, I want to reinforce the importance of avoiding unnecessary absences.  I recognize that it is a tough time of year when many of us are dealing with germs and illness.  Please keep in mind that we are your partners in keeping the students healthy and strong during the cold and flu season. I want to remind everyone that by doing just a few things, we improve our chances of not missing any days of school. First, be sure to start your child’s day with breakfast, and choose healthy snacks to help fuel the brain. Also, remind them to actively participate in Gym, recess, or other after school activities. Three, don’t forget to rest.  Adequate sleep will help your child learn and retain all of the information they are learning in school.  Finally, limit that screen time.  Screens, including your computer, phone, or television, stimulate the brain and can make it harder to fall asleep. January 11, 2019By Streetsboro City SchoolsALERT, BOE, District Finances, District News, Elementary School News, Food Service, Henry Defer Intermediate School News, High School News, Middle School News, News, Technology News, Transportation

Dear Students and Families of the Streetsboro City School District:

Last night the Board of Education voted to place a 9 mill operating levy on the ballot in May.  If approved by voters, this levy will generate approximately $4,419,998 and cost the homeowner of a $100,000 dollar home approximately $315.00 dollars per year ($26.25 per month).  Even if this levy is approved by voters, we will still have to cut approximately $600,000 a year from our budget in order to keep a positive balance, as required by state law. Here’s a look at how campus operations function, and what all goes in to actually making the call to cancel, and what happens if we don’t. (more…)

SCS | Riding the Bus Safely

January 7, 2019By Streetsboro City SchoolsALERT, District News, Elementary School News, Henry Defer Intermediate School News, High School News, Middle School News, News, Transportation

There are some basic rules we ask all our passengers, students and adults alike, to adhere to while riding a Streetsboro City Schools Bus. Some are mandated by the law and spelled out in the Ohio Revised Code, while others stem from basic etiquette and the need for safety while riding the bus. It’s always a good idea to review what the expectations are, even if you’ve been riding the bus for a few years. (more…)
