🚀 Rocket Updates – 18 NOV 2022

Dear Streetsboro Families and Staff,

As we head into the shortened Thanksgiving week and holiday season, I write this with a sense of pride and appreciation for all of you. As you read this letter, I hope that you will share in my excitement for our learning community.

We really do have so much to be thankful for here in Streetsboro!

Please don’t forget that next week is a two-day week for students. Thanksgiving break begins on Wednesday. Last month, our board of education approved my recommendation for a few staff collaboration days this year.

With the many initiatives we are implementing and the lack of available substitutes to release our teacher teams, we will use Monday, November 28th to dig deeper into these mission-critical projects. There is no school for students that day.

We are thankful for this time to plan and collaborate and it gives families one more day to enjoy one another during this holiday season.

In case you haven’t heard, our high school band left yesterday for Disney World. Although 45 hours spent on a charter bus may not sound ideal, this trip is the kind of experience the students will remember for a lifetime. Tuesday morning at 9:25, the band will be leading the parade down Disney’s Main Street.

We can all “tune” in to the Facebook livestream if you join the band booster facebook group. We are all very proud of the band members and their directors, Mr. Dawson and Mrs. Logan. I am very thankful for not only our band directors, but all of our teachers and coaches who provide these kind of awesome life experiences outside of the classroom. They give so much of their time and energy to make Streetsboro a great place for kids.

Our district social worker, Samantha Cassel and her team of volunteers changed the month of October to “Socktober” and collected socks for the needy. Thanks to the generosity of students, families, and staff at all four buildings and the transportation department, 936 pairs of new socks will be donated to the annual Community Christmas drive!

During this season of Thanksgiving, loads of canned goods are piling up in all the buildings to help community members who might need some support this holiday season. For all who participate in our community “giving” projects throughout the year, Thank You! Not only do these projects help people, they provide great lessons for our kids as well.

Lastly, I want to highlight another group who does so much for our school district, our PTA. Our parent-teacher group supports every one of our school buildings. This takes an immense amount of coordination and planning to pull off the many projects they take on to make our schools great places for our students.

Planning is underway for the annual “PTA Holiday Connection” scheduled for December 10th. It is a great event to create even more excitement for the holidays. WELL DONE PTA!

I could write several more pages describing all that I am thankful for here in Streetsboro, but we all need to get to the weekend and the many celebrations at hand. It is my hope that we can find time to make a list of things for which we are thankful. These students we get to serve each and every day are near the top of my list.

Have a great weekend, Happy Thanksgiving and GO ROCKETS!

Sincerely,

R. Michael Daulbaugh
