🚀 Rocket Updates – 21 OCT 2022

Good afternoon Rocket Families and Staff,

I hope this email finds all of you well and looking forward to perhaps our final few days of warmer weather and sunshine. The weekend ahead looks to be amazing. Make sure you get outside and enjoy it while you can.

Tonight is our final home varsity football game against Coventry. Come out and cheer our Rockets to victory. We will be honoring all of our senior football players, cheerleaders, band members and their parents for great high school careers.

It takes incredible sacrifice to participate in any extra-curricular activity. It should be a beautiful night under the lights for a game!

At the meeting of the Board of Education last week, I asked the board members to approve a revision to the school year calendar to include three additional staff collaboration days. These days are noted in yellow on this revised calendar and students will not have school on the dates indicated.

The collaborative days are very important to our staff so that they have the opportunity to review quarterly student performance data and modify instructional practices based on the data. We attempted to identify days in the calendar where students already were enjoying a long weekend.

Our hope is that these additional days off will give families the opportunity to spend time together as a family. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Know that we will likely include days for staff collaboration in future school calendars.

This week is National School Bus Safety Week, October 17-21, 2022. This year’s theme is “1 Bus + 1 Driver = a BIG Impact on Education”

🚀 In Streetsboro, we travel more than 1,000 miles with our school buses, transporting 1,400 students to/from school safely each day. Our drivers are trained to recognize signs of danger, and we train our student riders, too, on the proper ways to look for traffic before crossing a road or getting on or off a bus.

The first quarter of the year is in the books and report cards in grades 1 – 12 are on their way home. When you receive your child’s report card, take time to review the grades and discuss with your children some tangible goals for this next reporting period. Kids care when they know that the adults in their lives care!

The success or challenges that are reported now will pay huge dividends later if we take the time to support the learning process.

We have a great relationship with our community service personnel. The daily presence of our new school resource officer, Kyle French is making a huge impact on our students.

In addition to Officer French’s daily school visits, we often have other patrolmen stop by our schools during their shifts so they can get to know our students, staff and facilities a little bit better.

We are confident in our resolve to provide the safest environment for your children when they are not in your care. We take the safety of our students very seriously here at SCS!

Not to be outdone, the Streetsboro Fire Department assists with monthly fire drills in every one of our buildings. They also complete regular inspections and training so that if an emergency should take place, we will be ready.

Well, this is all I have for this week. Thanks again for everything each and everyone of you do to make this a great place for learning.

Have a great weekend and GO ROCKETS!

Sincerely,

R. Michael Daulbaugh
Superintendent
