🚀 Rocket Updates – 30 SEP 2022

Good afternoon Rocket Families and Staff,

Happy Friday and welcome to the weekend. It looks to be a beautiful fall weekend ahead of us so get out and enjoy it while you can! Fall athletics are in full swing so take advantage of the fall weather and get out to see our male and female athletes in action!

I have several announcements to begin the weekend so please take some time to read them. And, as always, please take time to read the updates from your child’s building principal.

First, I would like to begin by welcoming Officer Kyle French, our new SRO to the Rocket Family. Kyle has two daughters in our district and was excited to become a staff member. He has already made a positive impact in every building with both students and staff. Welcome, Kyle!

Kyle takes over for Officer Jason Fogleman who was promoted to Detective in our Streetsboro Police Department. Congratulations, Jason!

In addition, please make note of the following highlights:

Senior Center and Parks and Recreation – If you follow our City Council meetings, you likely heard that the Streetsboro City Schools will now house the Senior Citizens Center and Parks and Recreation Offices to our Annex building.

We are very excited about this partnership with the city and can’t wait to welcome our senior citizens to the campus. We hope that once they are settled, our senior citizens will want to become more involved in our school community.

A huge thank you goes out to Mayor Broska and the City Council who have agreed to hire an additional part-time SRO (in addition to Officer French) for the schools in exchange for housing our senior citizens and Parks and Recreation Offices. I would also like to thank our Board of Education for supporting this endeavor.

Flu Vaccinations – Akron Children’s Hospital will be hosting a flu shot clinic for students on October 20, 2022. Please watch for information coming home soon regarding the details for this clinic. While getting a flu shot is a family decision, we hope that many families will take advantage of this opportunity as it can help keep our students and staff in school and not sick at home.

Bus Services and Athletics – This is a reminder that bus service/athletic bus service may be canceled due to an ongoing staffing shortage.

We will send out information as early as possible, but sometimes it may be a 6 AM call, similar to a calamity day. Please have plans in place for student pick up and drop off should busing be canceled.

Family Movie Night! – Our AMAZING PTA will be hosting a Family Movie Night on October 16, 2022, at the Midway Twin Drive-In Theater in Ravenna. For only $10.00 per car (unlimited passengers), your family and friends can enjoy an evening of fun and food with fellow Rockets.

Please purchase tickets in advance at scsrockets.memberhub.com/store

Our SCS PTA is a great partner and provides so many opportunities for our families. Please make sure you check out the PTA Facebook Page to see all of the upcoming events hosted by our PTA.

Homecoming – This next week will kick off a series of exciting events leading up to our Homecoming Game on Friday, October 7, 2022. Please check out the PTA Facebook Page for a schedule of events culminating with the Homecoming Dance for our high school students on October 8, 2022.

As always, thank you for your continued support of our students and staff in Streetsboro. The start of the school year continues to be a positive one and we look forward to this trend continuing.

In closing, I would encourage everyone to think positive thoughts for those who were impacted by the hurricane in Florida. Many families tragically lost their homes and all of their belongings and will have to completely rebuild.

Have a super weekend with your family and Go Rockets!

Sincerely,

R. Michael Daulbaugh
