Welcome to a fresh new year! We are excited to have our students back and learning.
📞 In my blast call yesterday evening I mentioned updates to our “all call” system. This system is utilized to share important updates about your child’s school, transportation, or weather related closures.
We have been working with our vendor, SchoolMessenger, to enhance functions of the system so that families can customize how they receive information from the schools.
You can participate in this text / SMS service just by sending a text message of “Y” or “Yes” to our school’s short code number, 67587. Additional information is available at this link:
✏️ In other news, the MAP Testing benchmarking window opened this past week. These diagnostic tests, given three times a year, provide information about individual student strengths or areas of needed growth in mathematics and reading.
Using this information, teachers can adjust instruction to meet individual student needs in these classes. Intervention groups, designed to help our students meet these rigorous targets, are in place across the four district buildings.
Although this benchmark testing may not be complete for all buildings and grade levels, preliminary reports show many children surpassed their growth targets. This is excellent news and a testament to the focused instruction our children are receiving each day and the important family support our children receive. Our instructional teams are committed to academic excellence.
✏️ In addition to meeting students’ academic needs, supporting student social emotional learning continues within the district. The Middle School recently raffled off a new bike as part of their PBIS program.
Students earned tickets for the raffle by demonstrating positive behaviors in school. 5th grade students at Henry Defer Intermediate are participating in “anti-bullying” lessons with the Summit Humane Society.
✏️ Be sure to check out this week’s updated Staff Spotlight on the district website. These staff members are excellent examples for students and colleagues alike! I hope you are enjoying these weekly examples of the kind of dedication our employees have to our district’s mission.
✏️ Streetsboro City Schools operates an integrated preschool program in the district. Our teachers and related service providers work daily to create lessons that meet the needs of our youngest learners, some of whom may require specialized instruction.
In the next few weeks the team will be sharing information about the program, including services for students with special needs and requirements for role model students. If you have a preschool aged child, or know someone in the district who does, and have questions about the program, please contact the Streetsboro Elementary School main office.
✏️ Rocket athletes are continuing a busy schedule over the next few weeks. The updated schedule of games is available on the district website here. As always our student athletes would enjoy a large fan section cheering them on.
🚌 Thank you for your support as we have navigated changes to the bus schedules this week. While these adjustments were necessary to address the staffing shortages and bus cancellations, we understand that change always has an impact on our families.
We anticipate times will continue to improve as students and staff become more familiar with the new routes.
❤️ Your support of our district has allowed us to make needed changes to keep our students in school and participating in our many extracurricular activities. Thank you for all that you do at home to support instruction and to make our schools and community a great place to learn.
Best wishes for a wonderful 2022 year,
Superintendent Pro Tempore
