Good afternoon Streetsboro families and staff and welcome to the weekend!
It looks like we will have another nice evening and Saturday for everyone to enjoy. I personally cannot wait to get outside and get as much sunshine before the dreaded winter sets in.
We are off to a great start here in the school district. So many great things are happening already on our campuses. Both students and staff seem to be happy to be back together again without restrictions. Dare I say life seems normal once again?
Like last week, I do have some important updates/reminders to provide you as we close out the week. Please also make sure you read any publication sent out by your studentās building principal.
Bus Drivers and NEW VAN DRIVER POSITION
We continue to have a severe bus driver shortage. Amanda Hall, our Transportation Supervisor, has been working overtime with her team in order to cover all routes including athletic events. Please try to understand that while we are doing our best to transport every event, we just donāt have the drivers to cover everything at times.
We have attempted to modify schedules but in the end, there still will be some uncovered routes that will require our parents to help out.
WE NEED YOU! If you are interested in driving or know someone who needs a job, driving a bus or working in the schools could be for you! We will provide all the training you need to be properly certified. Please reach out to us if you are interested in driving or working in our schools. We have competitive pay with benefits depending on the job.
NEW JOB ALERT! The board of education gave us the green light to move forward with posting for a van driver position. The certification is very simple and easy to acquire. Our hope is that this position will eventually be a pathway to getting a CDL and potentially becoming a full-time bus driver. If you are interested in applying please go to the website and submit your application.
Kindergarten Report Card
Last night the board heard a presentation regarding the new standards-based report card being used in Kindergarten. The goal of this new report card is to give our parents a better understanding of what their child can do specifically, as well as areas the student still needs to work on.
This new report card will be introduced to families at the first parent-teacher conference this fall. You can also view it here. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to your childās teacher. Thanks to Mr. Ile, our instructional coaches, and the kindergarten team for their work on this new report card.
Freedom Flag Ceremony
Today the eighth grade participated in a remembrance ceremony regarding the tragic events that occurred on 9/11. The Freedom Foundation chose Streetsboro to showcase the Freedom Flag (only one of two schools in Ohio to have this honor) as well as a piece of steel from the first tower.
Several students spoke at the event as well as Principal Taylor, Captain Grimm of the Streetsboro Fire Department, and Mayor Glenn Broska. The ceremony was covered by Fox 8 News and can be viewed here. Also please take a moment to go to the Freedom Flag Foundation website to read about this wonderful project.
Band Show
Finally, I would like to personally invite everyone to the very first Boro Band Bash band show being held at Streetsboro High School Stadium on Saturday, September 17th, at 7:00 pm.
The āBoro Band Bash will include performances from five Northeast Ohio schools and, of course, your Streetsboro Marching Rockets. Tickets will be $10 online and $15 at the door.
You can visitĀ Eventbrite and search for Boro Band Bash or visit band.scsrockets.org to purchase your tickets. Ticket pre-orders end on September 12. Parking is free. There will be delicious concessions available, a 50/50 Raffle, and the chance to purchase a āShout Outā over the sound system.
Itās going to be an amazing event. So please join us for an evening of music, marching, and spectacle on September 17th at 7:00 pm for the 1st Annual Boro Band Bash!
Once again I would like to thank all of our students, staff and families for your continued support and for helping to make the start of the school year the best in many years.
We work best when we work together and it feels like great things are happening! Please have a safe and relaxing weekend and Go Rockets!
Sincerely,
R. Michael Daulbaugh
