Rocket Updates – February 19th, 2021

🚀 Good evening Rocket Families!

I hope this email finds you well and ready for the weekend. It always seems that our short weeks feel like long weeks. Anyway, I hope everyone has a chance to relax this weekend.

⏰ As you know we transition to a new schedule next week in grades K-5. Our goal will be to return our elementary students back to five days of instruction as soon as we possibly can. Until then, our elementary students will return to school four days a week.

This schedule was included in the update last week. The schedule next week will look a little different due to the vaccination clinic for our staff.

Here is the schedule for next week (except the middle school who will remain on the current hybrid schedule):

  • Monday – all in (SLR kids at home
  • Tuesday – all in (SLR kids at home)
  • Wednesday – Asynchronous entire district (High School will run it’s normal schedule)
  • Thursday – Asynchronous entire district (this is the vaccine clinic day)
  • Friday – all in (SLR kids at home)

💉 We understand that students will be forced to learn at home on the day of the vaccination clinic. While this is not ideal, having our staff vaccinated is one step closer to helping get our students back to school and some degree of normalcy.

The week prior to Spring Break, our staff will receive the second vaccination. Research has shown that some adults experience side effects after the second vaccination for a short period of time.

In anticipation of the possibility that staff will be unable to work, we will utilize the following schedule the week of March 15th (the week before spring break) for Grades K-5 and the high school:

  • Monday – all in (SLR kids at home)
  • Tuesday – all in (SLR kids at home)
  • Wednesday – all in (SLR kids at home)
  • Thursday – Asynchronous entire district (this is the vaccine clinic day)
  • Friday – will either be asynchronous or a calamity day.

The middle school schedule has NOT been worked out yet. However, please plan to have an asynchronous day on Thursday and either an asynchronous or calamity day on Friday of that week.

💻 Finally, as you may be aware, we experienced some significant issues with our network that caused connectivity issues districtwide. We sought outside assistance to help us with these issues and thought they were solved on Thursday evening. When students arrived at school on Friday, there were additional connectivity problems and more work was done to restore services.

🔐 Due to security concerns, I will not give details regarding the nature of the outage, but we do believe that we have fixed it. Again, thank you for your patience and understanding as we dealt with this unexpected situation.

Please find time to spend with your family and loved ones and enjoy your weekend.

Sincerely,

R. Michael Daulbaugh
