I hope this update finds you well and ready to relax and enjoy the weekend. It is hard to believe that we are already halfway through the first grading period. Teachers have been completing interim information and that will be sent home via mail shortly. Grades are also available on the Home Access Center (HAC) for your convenience.
Last week I shared information about our MAP testing. Teacher teams are now analyzing the data to help them tailor their instruction to best meet student needs. If you have children in younger grades you may have heard them talking about math and how much fun it is. The new Bridges math program is being implemented and students are able to reinforce previously learned skills and practice new math concepts in a variety of fun ways. In a recent classroom visit, several students reported that math is their favorite subject!
School pictures have been happening over the last few weeks and everyone is getting involved – even Piper, our therapy dog who spends time at the Middle School (see picture below).
Building principals are sharing information about picture days and retake dates in their parent newsletters, so be watching for that information.
October 16th is International “World Food Day”. In honor of this day, Heath Urbaniak, our Food Services Director, has created a special district wide event to help gather food for families in need, celebrate community both within and outside of our schools, and to just have fun!
Building principals have developed a special menu to celebrate and students have an opportunity to win gift certificates for ala carte options. Additional details for this event are available here and will be shared out in weekly building newsletters as well. We are appreciative of Heath’s work on this project and for our partnership with the Nutrition Group, who is adding special treats for our students at no cost to the district.
As always, we have a variety of sports activities for both High School and Middle School athletics over the next few days. Be sure to check the athletics schedule link on the district website. And, if you are looking for a weekend road trip, consider cheering on our Cross Country teams at the Boardman Invitational this Saturday. The weather forecast looks good and you will have plenty of Rockets to cheer on as both our Middle School and High School teams are competing.
Finally, while you are hearing from me on an almost daily basis with COVID case updates…since the mask mandate was reinstated, we have dramatically reduced the number of students that are forced to quarantine outside of school and have had no additional cases of in school transmission.
🚌 Please remember that masks are mandatory on buses as well.
Thank you for your continued support. Together we can keep our kids in person learning and enjoying a great school year.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Director of Student Services
