0 ALERT 1 District News

SCS | Rocket Updates 13th October, 2020

Dear Streetsboro Families,

Yesterday, October 12, the Streetsboro School District was notified of one single positive case of COVID-19. This involves a Middle School student whose initial exposure was outside of the school district.

Upon notification, the affected areas were immediately disinfected, and contact tracing began by contact tracers at the Portage County Health Department.

Today, the district was notified that a person associated with the high school volleyball team was COVID positive.

Subsequently, we followed the protocol from the Portage County Health Department and contact tracing began. The district also made efforts to notify all parents of the students who were considered close contacts.

Please keep in mind that as soon as we are made aware of anyone COVID positive in our district, we will promptly follow the protocols given to us by the Portage County Health Department and will attempt to notify all identified close contacts.

While it is not required that we do this (Portage County Health Department officially notifies close contacts), we have since realized that a phone call from the district in addition to a phone call from the Health Department is warranted. The district will continue to sanitize all buildings nightly per our restart plan and our staff will be diligent in enforcing all safety protocols.

If your student is ultimately quarantined due to being COVID Positive or identified as a close contact, please make sure they get in contact with their teachers (via Google Classroom or call the school) so that classwork can be completed.

Finally, we will continue to monitor the health of the district by analyzing the number of COVID positive cases, student and staff attendance and the ability to adequately cover our classrooms. Should the need arise to move to a digital model, we will do our best to give adequate notification. However, this could happen at a moment’s notice so please be prepared.

Families – please remain vigilant in self-assessing your children daily before sending them to school. Any signs or symptoms of illness are a reason to keep your child home. For more information on the signs and symptoms of COVID-19, please refer to the Restart Plan located on the district website.

Thank you for your continued support as we navigate these uncharted waters.
