SCS | Rocket Updates December 11th, 2020

Good afternoon Rocket Families,

I hope this email finds you well and ready for the home stretch towards our Holiday Break. Can you believe we have almost completed an entire semester? I personally feel these past several weeks have gone by quickly.

Last night at the Board of Education meeting, I outlined what our return to in person learning would look like on January 11, 2021. We will be moving to a hybrid schedule due to the number of students returning from our Rocket Digital Academy.

Beginning January 11, students will be working synchronously (accessing β€œlive” instruction from home), asynchronously (accessing recorded lessons or assignments via Google classroom), or face to face (in building instruction).

πŸš€ Streetsboro Elementary School

  • Hybrid Monday/Tuesday – Group A in person while Group B synchronously learns from home.
  • Wednesday- both Groups A and B asynchronously learn at home. Small groups will meet with our teachers for remediation/catch up. Teachers will also have time for additional planning due to synchronous learning and have the opportunity for professional development.
  • Thursday/Friday- Group B in person while Group A synchronously learns from home.

πŸš€Β Preschool

Information about preschool instruction will be communicated to preschool families prior to Winter Break. Each building principal will provide more details regarding these schedules soon and the grouping for Hybrid Learning (Group A and Group B) will be communicated prior to our holiday break.

Here is what the Grouping will look like:

  • Group A- Students with the last names beginning with letters A-L.
  • Group B- Students with the last names beginning with M-Z.

**Family groups with multiple last names will be divided up differently, but in one group.

This will be communicated out to parents. Additionally, we plan to provide meals for students when they are not in school.Β More information will be provided prior to implementing this schedule.

Yesterday during my meeting with the Portage County Department of Health, we were informed that while the county remains Purple (having met six or more of the seven indicators for two straight weeks), this week we only met four of the indicators.

If Portage County continues to meet less than six indicators this next week, we will return to Red. This is good news and represents a positive trend for our county.Β It is to be noted that our numbers of students and staff in quarantine have dramatically dropped, but we continue to receive daily calls regarding students and staff who have tested positive.

We will continue to monitor these numbers so that we can make a decision regarding a return to school in person on January 11 and the resumption of athletics. Thanks again for your continued support during this difficult time and I look forward to getting our students and staff back to school, in person in January.

Take care and have a safe and relaxing weekend.

Sincerely,

R. Michael Daulbaugh
Superintendent
Streetsboro City Schools
