SCS | Rocket Updates December 18th, 2020

Good Evening and Happy Friday!

Can you believe our Winter Recess is finally here? I am sure everyone is as excited as I am and ready for a break.

The past two weeks have been challenging for everyone being in a Remote setting.  But I have heard our students and staff did an amazing job with this challenge.  The creativity of our staff continues to amaze me and I heard many success stories regarding our students during remote instruction.  Well done to all.

With the good news of a vaccine being released, this should bring us all hope that this pandemic will be over in due time and we can all get back to normal.  Until then, we must remain vigilant and continue to follow all recommended safety precautions.  The next five to six weeks may continue to be very challenging so it is important to do what you can to keep your family safe.

Local, state and national health professionals recommend limiting our holiday celebrations to our immediate families. This will reduce our exposure risk and limit the spread in our community.

This week Portage County was moved from the highest Purple designation back to Red.

Additionally, the overall health of the district has improved and the number of active COVID cases and quarantined students and staff has improved.  As such, we have made the decision to resume our athletic activities following the strict guidelines put into place by the OHSAA.

We will continue to closely monitor these activities; Should we have any cause for concern, we will reevaluate immediately; Our goal has always been and will continue to be to keep our entire school community safe.

Finally, I would like to remind everyone that from January 5, 2021 to January 8, 2021 we will remain in remote Instruction.  On Monday, January 11, 2021, we will resume in-person instruction in the following formats by building:

🚀 Preschool

Information about preschool instruction will be communicated to preschool families prior to Winter Break. Each building principal will provide more details regarding these schedules soon and the grouping for Hybrid Learning (Group A and Group B) will be communicated prior to our holiday break.

Here is what the Grouping will look like:

  • Group A- Students with the last names beginning with letters A-L.
  • Group B- Students with the last names beginning with M-Z.

**Family groups with multiple last names will be divided up differently, but in one group.

Prior to our second semester start, information will be sent reminding students and families about expectations when learning from home. Students learning from home synchronously will be expected to follow the same rules as if they were physically present in class.  Again, these expectations will be sent to all families prior to our return in January.

It is my hope that all of you enjoy our winter recess with your families.  Rest, recharge and get ready for what is sure to be a fast and furious sprint to the end of the school year.  Stay safe and Go Rockets!

Sincerely,

R. Michael Daulbaugh
