Dear Streetsboro High School Families,
The 2018-19 school year is in progress at Streetsboro High School. The year began with our annual Freshmen Festival – an all day freshmen orientation that allows freshmen to get acclimated to their new school and the staff . In addition to our staff, we always have a few upperclassmen on hand to assist the freshmen. Every year I am inspired as I watch these 10 -12 grade students, who have given up their last day of summer vacation, assist and attend to the incoming freshmen in such a way as to alleviate their anxiety and concern. As a school administrator, it is a great way to begin the year! I would also like to thank the Streetsboro Community PTA for their assistance. Without their help, the day would not have been as good for our staff or our students.
Tomorrow night, Wednesday, Aug 29, at 6:00 pm, we would like parents to join us for Curriculum Night / Open House. The presentation will begin at 6:00 in the beautiful SHS Auditorium. A brief presentation of the high school curriculum will be presented by the SHS faculty, followed by a teacher-parent meet & greet. Parents will be able to meet all of their student’s teachers, as well as counselors and principals. The evening will conclude at approximately 7:30.
This Friday is school picture day. Students will have their picture taken by Lifetouch photography at some point during the school day. Order forms were given to students to take home. If you would like to order pictures online, go to https://my.lifetouch.com/mylifetouch/#/ and enter our school picture code, WP098008Y0. From there, you will be able to order pictures for your student.
Also on Friday, please join us for the annual Streetsboro Community PTA Tailgate party in the SHS parking lot, in preparation for our first home football game of the season against Orange High School. There will be family fun for all and when the tailgate is done, join us in the stadium to cheer on the Rockets!
We have made a few changes to our dismissal traffic flow. In an effort to more efficiently dismiss all of our traffic, parents are being asked to pick up students in the front of the building, near door # 15. There is a pick-up lane in this area that the buses do not utilize in the afternoon. There is also ample room in the front parking lot which makes this a safer alternative to the back of the school, where pick-up took place last year. This allows for a dismissal where all student drivers are turning right, all parents/pick-ups are turning left and all buses simply head straight to exit the parking lot. Thank you in advance for your cooperation. Also, we will continue to sell parking permits for the entire year. If your student intends to drive to school, please make sure we have a copy of their driver’s license and insurance on file in the school office.
Yesterday, we had class meetings to discuss academic, disciplinary and extracurricular topics with each grade level. Graduation requirements, testing results, testing schedules, school safety, dress code, and cell phone policy were among the topics discussed. In addition to these, we also discussed new procedures designed to eliminate the use of vaporizers in our school. Juuls, the most common form of these, have become very popular among teenagers across the country and pose significant health risks to our students. Mr. Newman tweeted a very informative article on this topic. Please give it a read, when you get a chance.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the High School Main Office by phone, 330-626-4902, or email. Thank you, again, for all of your support, patience and enthusiasm for this school year.
