Dear Streetsboro Middle School Families and Friends,
This is the last week before Spring Break and also the last week of instruction before AIR testing. Our students and teachers have been working very hard to prepare for assessments. Please enjoy the break! We look forward to seeing our students back on April 1st, rested, ready and eager to be successful on the test!
Thank you all for the donations that have been coming in for the AIR tests. Because we have an additional grade this year, we still need many more items in order for each of our students to have a snack and water during testing, so we are still asking for additional donations. Please read below for suggested items.
Please remember, we expect students to eat a healthy breakfast at home or in the morning in our cafeteria when they arrive every day, but especially on testing day. Sleep is Fuel!

Canvassing: Dates have been set for neighborhood canvassing and Walmart tables, including March 23, 24 and April 14, 27, 28. Please sign up below if you’d like to help:
SMS is preparing for the upcoming AIR Test. All students will take the English/Language Arts test on April 3rd and 4th, the Math test on April 24th and 25th and ONLY 8th graders will take the Science test on May 1st. Studies have shown that students who get enough sleep and fuel their bodies properly perform better than those who are tired and hungry. In addition to making sure that your child goes to bed early the night before the tests and eats a healthy breakfast at home, we would like to offer students a snack at school before the test.
We are asking families to donate bottled water, and the following items:
Kellogg’s Rice Treats (Original)
Pop Tarts (Blue Boxes)
Cheerio Cereal Bars
It is important that these items are pre-packaged, so we can remain in compliance with the district outside food policy. Please have you child deliver these items to office. Thank you in advance for assisting us in preparing our students to be more successful on their tests. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Monday, March 18th – Please join us at Chipotle for dinner on Monday, March 18th between 4:00 and 8:00 pm. Please show them the flier listed in the link below and 33% of the proceeds will go toward the trip. We hope to see you there!
Friday, March 22nd – We will have our PBIS (Positive Behavior Incentives and Supports) event for the 3rd grading period. The students will who qualify will be treated to an ice cream sundae.
For the assembly on Friday, we have our annual Staff vs. Students Volleyball Game with the 8th graders.
On Wednesday, May 30th, Streetsboro Middle School will have an 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony. The event will take place at Streetsboro High School, located at 8585 State Route 14. The ceremony will begin at 8:30am and end at 10:30am. Parents and other family members are welcome and encouraged to attend. The 8th grade students will report to school at the normal arrival time. They will be bused over to the high school for the ceremony. Upon completion of the 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony, the students will be dismissed to go home for the summer from the high school. Please mark your calendars now for the event, and I look forward to seeing you at the 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony.
***Washington DC Update***
Spring is on the horizon and the final marking period is here! Final plans and arrangements are being made for the Washington DC trip. We have just about 9 weeks until we go on the trip. The students are getting excited…and so are the teachers!
Important Dates to Keep in Mind
- Roommate forms were given to students the week of March 4h and were due back, with a parent signature, on March 13th.
- Prescription and non-prescription med forms will be given to students the week of March 18th. These forms need to be completed and returned to the school no later than April 26th.
- All fundraising will be complete as of March 18th and distributions to the student accounts will be made soon.
- The final payment is due March 29th. If you have not made payment, please do so soon.
- Students will need to bring a 100% cotton white t-shirt for tie-dying by April 18th.
- There is a mandatory DC meeting on Monday April 29th at 7 pm in the Middle School gym. A representative from the tour company will be here to answer any questions.
- Luggage Check-In will be Tuesday May 21st from 3-6pm.
- The trip is Wednesday May 22rd —Friday May 24th.
