The Principal’s Student Advisory Council at Streetsboro High School is a new initiative designed to elevate student voice and strengthen communication between students and administration. This year, 22–25 students volunteered to be part of the committee, representing a variety of grade levels across the high school. The group meets monthly with Principal Patrick Griffis to discuss topics that impact student life—from academics and extracurriculars to school culture and community involvement.

The purpose of the council is to give students a meaningful platform to share their perspectives, advocate for their peers, and collaborate on school improvement efforts. Through these conversations, members communicate curricular, extracurricular, and social concerns directly with the principal, helping ensure student input shapes decision-making at all levels. Members also assist in planning school events and respond positively to issues that arise within the school community.

Since its launch, the committee has already begun making an impact. Members helped organize a New Student Breakfast to welcome students and build connections early in the school year. They also worked with school leaders to add new amenities in the cafeteria—such as a microwave—to improve the student experience and sense of community. In the coming months, the council will review results from the school’s Start-Stop-Continue Survey, using student feedback to guide the next steps for continued progress.

Participation on the Principal’s Student Advisory Council helps students build important skills in leadership, advocacy, and collaboration. Members learn to communicate effectively, think creatively, and work together to make positive change. As they meet regularly and participate in community events, students play a direct role in shaping a more unified, empowered, and inclusive school culture.

The formation of the Principal’s Student Advisory Council marks an exciting step forward for Streetsboro High School. By prioritizing student voice and encouraging active engagement, the committee is helping to create a stronger bridge between students and school leadership—one built on trust, respect, and shared commitment to continuous improvement.
