Streetsboro voters rejected the school district’s request for new funding for the second consecutive time in the November election. The 5-mill additional, continuing levy for current expenses—scheduled to begin collection in 2026—would have generated more than $3.8 million annually to support district operations. The district will now lose a minimum of $1 million each year.

Following the levy’s failure, the Board of Education voted on November 13 to discontinue a number of extracurricular clubs and activities and to limit all field trips as part of a broader effort to address current financial challenges.

Streetsboro City Schools is notifying families and community members of these changes, which affect several district clubs and field trips. These reductions reflect the district’s need to balance its budget and preserve essential instructional services.

“The decisions made by the Board this evening were difficult,” said Superintendent Cindy Deevers. “We recognize how important these experiences are to our students and staff. At the same time, we must remain fiscally responsible and make choices that protect our core mission of teaching and learning.”

The specific clubs, activities, and field trips impacted as of November 17 include:

Academic Challenge; grade-level advisors for grades 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10; the Anti-Bullying Club; Middle School Art Club; Chess Club; Social Acceptance Club; Foreign Language Club; International Culture Club; Just Say No Club; Link Crew; Math 24 (Middle School and Defer); PANDA; Middle School Spelling Bee; High School and Middle School STEM Clubs; STEM assistant; Summer STEM Academy; WEB Team Leader; Pep Band; Music Ensemble and Music Ensemble Assistant; High School and Middle School Jazz Clubs; Select Choir; Treble Choir; BET

A Club; High School Student Council; Elementary Student Council

The district expects to implement a second round of reductions in the near future. The next phase will include additional evaluation of programs and operations to ensure Streetsboro Schools continue to prioritize classroom instruction and essential student services.

Streetsboro City Schools remains committed to providing a high-quality educational experience for all students. District leaders will continue to communicate updates as additional reductions are identified and finalized.
