Streetsboro Middle School has been recognized by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (ODEW) with the Momentum Award for the second year in a row, a distinction that reflects sustained academic growth and achievement across the building.

The Momentum Award is presented to schools that have improved their performance index by three or more points from the 2023-2024 report card to the 2024-2025 report card while also earning a value-added progress rating of four or more stars. The award highlights schools demonstrating not just a single strong year, but a consistent upward trajectory in student learning.

Back-to-back recognition is particularly meaningful given the award's eligibility requirements. Schools that receive an overall rating of five stars or carry a watermark on either year's report card are not eligible, meaning the honor is reserved specifically for schools showing meaningful, measurable improvement over time.

We are so proud of this achievement and it wouldn’t be possible without the dedication and hard work of our amazing students, the passion and commitment of our staff, and the ongoing support of our families,” said SMS Principal Lee Weppler. “Together, we form a community that values education, encourages growth, and supports every child's success. We appreciate everyone helping make this recognition happen. We're proud of everything we’ve accomplished as a team!”

The recognition comes from ODEW's annual report card system, which evaluates schools across multiple performance categories including achievement, progress and gap closure. Earning four or more stars in value-added progress means students at Streetsboro Middle School are demonstrating academic growth beyond what would typically be expected, regardless of where they started.

For the students walking those hallways, the award serves as a reminder that their hard work is being recognized at the state level. The achievement reflects the work happening inside classrooms every day, where educators have built a culture focused on continuous improvement.

Streetsboro City Schools continues to build on districtwide momentum, with multiple buildings showing improvement across state report card categories in recent years.
