Dear Streetsboro Families,

I am writing to share an important and difficult update regarding our district’s financial situation and the steps the Board of Education has taken following the defeat of the November operating levy.

As many of you know, voters did not approve the district’s request for new operating funds—our second levy defeat this year. The proposed 5-mill levy would have generated more than $3.8 million annually beginning in 2026. Without this funding, Streetsboro City Schools will lose at least $1 million each year, requiring us to make reductions to ensure we remain fiscally responsible and able to preserve essential instructional services.

At its meeting on November 13, the Board of Education approved the discontinuation of a number of extracurricular clubs and activities, spring middle school and JV sports, and the cancellation of all field trips. These decisions were not made lightly. We know how important these opportunities are for our students. They provide connection, enrichment, and experiences that extend learning beyond the classroom.

Unfortunately, our current financial reality requires us to limit spending in every possible area so that we can continue prioritizing classroom instruction, core academic programs, and student support services.

Academic Challenge; grade-level advisors for grades 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10; the Anti-Bullying Club; Middle School Art Club; Chess Club; Social Acceptance Club; Foreign Language Club; International Culture Club; Just Say No Club; Link Crew; Math 24 (Middle School and Defer); PANDA; Middle School Spelling Bee; High School and Middle School STEM Clubs; STEM assistant; Summer STEM Academy; WEB Team Leader; Pep Band; Music Ensemble and Music Ensemble Assistant; High School and Middle School Jazz Clubs; Select Choir; Treble Choir; BETA Club; High School Student Council; Elementary Student Council: Middle School spring sports; and Junior Varsity spring sports. All field trips have been cancelled.

We understand how disappointing and frustrating this news will be for many of our families. These reductions are not a reflection of the value of these programs, nor of the dedication of the staff and students involved. They are a necessary response to the financial challenges we are facing.

We also want you to know that this is only the first phase. A second round of reductions will be necessary in the near future. District leaders will continue evaluating programs and operations carefully, keeping our focus on sustaining high-quality classroom instruction and essential student services for every child.

We remain committed to open and transparent communication. As additional decisions are finalized, we will share information with families as quickly as possible.

Despite these difficult reductions, our mission remains unchanged: to provide a strong educational experience that supports our students academically, socially, and emotionally. We will continue to work toward long-term solutions that ensure Streetsboro City Schools remain strong and sustainable for years to come.
