For only the second time in school history, the Streetsboro Rockets varsity softball team has advanced to the Division 4 Northeast District Finals.
The Rockets will face the Field Falcons on Thursday, May 21, at 5 p.m. at Massillon Washington High School, the softball stadium is located off of 420 20th St..SE in Massillon.
The only other Streetsboro softball team to reach the district finals was the 1994 squad, who finished the season as district runner-ups.
Streetsboro enters the championship game with a 14-12 record after defeating Norton on Monday. The Rockets headed into the bottom of the 7th with a 14-5 lead before settling for a 14-12 win over the never say die Panthers.
The Falcons earned their spot in the finals after blanking Crestwood 10-0 in their semifinal match on May 19. They carry a 18-3 record into Thursday's matchup and have won eight consecutive games. Streetsboro and the Falcons went head-to-head earlier this month with the Falcons taking the win with a 17-0 final score.
Fans traveling to Massillon should note that buses may drop off and park directly on 20th Street. Fan parking is available in the parking lot across the street from the field.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for K-12 students. Children age 5 and under are admitted free. Tickets can be purchased in advance through the OHSAA website at ohsaa.org/tickets or will be available for purchase at the gate on game day. Ticket sales close at 7 p.m.
The Streetsboro City Schools community is proud of this team and everything they have accomplished already this season. The community is invited to join the Rockets in Massillon on Thursday as they compete for a district title.
