At its July 9 meeting, the Streetsboro City Schools Board of Education approved the return of junior varsity athletic programs for the 2026-27 school year, continuing the district's efforts to restore student opportunities.
The action follows the Board's June decision to reinstate all student clubs that were discontinued following the November 2025 Board meeting, along with middle school athletic programs.
As with middle school athletics, the Board approved a $300 pay-to-participate fee for each junior varsity sport.
The Board also considered restoring freshman athletics. A motion to reinstate freshman sports was made but did not receive Board approval. Boys' basketball is the only freshman athletic program the district has historically offered.
In addition, the Board approved returning the district's athletic director position to full-time status.
The Board also approved a new policy requiring all outstanding school fees to be paid before students may participate in athletics or school-sponsored clubs.
With the restoration of junior varsity sports, the district will continue preparations for the upcoming fall season, including finalizing coaching assignments, scheduling competitions, and completing plans for student participation.
