RENEWAL LEVY • NO NEW REVENUE • 5.1 MILLS • APPROXIMATELY $2.55 MILLION ANNUALLY
What will be on the November 3, 2026, ballot?
The Streetsboro City Schools Board of Education has placed a combined 5.1-mill renewal levy on the November 3, 2026, ballot. Issue 7 combines two existing district levies: a 3.6-mill General Fund levy and a 1.5-mill Permanent Improvement levy.
Is this a new tax?
No. This is a renewal of existing levies and will not generate new revenue for the district or increase the current tax rate for property owners.
How long have these levies been in place?
Both levies were originally approved by Streetsboro voters in 2007 and have been renewed three times since then.
Why are the two levies being combined?
Rather than placing the existing 3.6-mill General Fund levy and 1.5-mill Permanent Improvement levy on the ballot separately, the district is combining them into one 5.1-mill renewal issue. The funding purposes remain the same.
How much revenue does the levy provide?
The combined levy provides approximately $2.55 million annually to Streetsboro City Schools. Approximately $1,798,235 is directed to the General Fund, while approximately $748,840 is allocated to the Permanent Improvement Fund.
How much does the levy currently cost a homeowner per $100,000 of appraised/market value?
The cost would be $96 per $100,000 of the county auditor’s market value (appraised value).
When do the existing levies expire?
The last year of collections for these levies will be calendar 2027.
What percentage of the district's General Fund revenue does the levy represent?
The general fund revenue that this levy represents is about 6% of the total revenue on a yearly basis.
What specific projects have Permanent Improvement dollars paid for in recent years?
Permanent Improvement funds have been used for a variety of long-term facility, safety, technology and equipment needs, including:
Safety: Safety strobe systems throughout each school building
Building Improvements: Bus garage updates, concrete work and water heater replacements
Technology Infrastructure: Wi-Fi and network cabling projects at Streetsboro Elementary School and Henry Defer Intermediate School
Vehicles and Equipment: Three school buses, a Ventrac and a mower
What does the General Fund portion pay for?
The 3.6-mill General Fund portion supports the district's day-to-day operations. These funds help pay for educational programs, staffing, transportation, utilities and other operating expenses associated with educating students and operating the school district.
What does the Permanent Improvement portion pay for?
The 1.5-mill Permanent Improvement portion is used for longer-term capital expenses. These funds can be used to maintain and improve school buildings and grounds, replace or update vehicles, purchase equipment, and complete facility and infrastructure projects.
Can Permanent Improvement funds be used for salaries or regular operating expenses?
No. Permanent Improvement funds are restricted by law and must be used for qualifying capital expenses with a useful life of five years or more. They cannot be used for employee salaries or routine operating expenses.
Will the district receive additional money if the levy passes?
No. Because this is a renewal, the levy will continue an existing revenue stream of approximately $2.55 million annually. It does not provide additional revenue beyond what the district currently receives from these levies.
Will my taxes increase if the levy passes?
The renewal itself will not increase the current tax rate paid by property owners for these levies. It continues the existing 5.1 mills.
What happens if the levy is approved?
The district will continue receiving approximately $2.55 million annually from the two existing revenue sources, with the General Fund and Permanent Improvement portions continuing to be used for their respective purposes.
What happens if the levy is not approved?
The district would lose approximately $2.55 million in annual revenue when the existing levies expire, including approximately $1.8 million for General Fund operations and approximately $749,000 for Permanent Improvement needs.
When is Election Day?
Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
Where can residents find additional information?
Streetsboro City Schools will provide additional financial information, frequently asked questions and levy information to the community leading up to the November election on the district website.
