Streetsboro High School (SHS) ranked No. 9 among high schools in the Akron metropolitan area in the newly released U.S. News & World Report Best High Schools Rankings for 2025. These rankings are based on data from the 2023 school year (two years behind), and take into account state assessment scores, student access and results in Advanced Placement (AP) courses, and graduation rate.

U.S. News & World Report evaluated nearly 17,901 public high schools nationwide, and 715 schools in Ohio. The school's ranking of No. 149 within Ohio places SHS in the top 21% statewide.

Within a two year stretch, SHS has seen a dramatic climb in this ranking system, jumping from No. 18 in 2023 to No. 9 this year in all Akron area high schools, and jumping from No. 5 in 2023 to No. 2 among all high schools in Portage County.

“At Streetsboro, we are always looking for ways to expand opportunities for our students–whether through diverse course offerings or by strengthening their overall educational experience,” Superintendent Cindy Deevers said. “This recognition from U.S. News & World Report reflects the dedication and hard work of our students, teachers, staff, and families. It shows that we are moving in a positive direction and building a strong foundation of success.”

The U.S. News rankings consider six key factors when determining the overall rankings, with the weight of each criteria given a percentage with all six totaling 100 percent. These areas are:

College Readiness: (30%) This measures the percentage of seniors who took Advanced Placement (AP) exams and received qualifying scores.

State Assessment Proficiency: (20%) This looks at combined scores on the state tests in science, reading, and mathematics that students must pass to graduate from high school.

State Assessment Performance: (20%) This ranking factor compares combined math, reading and science state assessment scores with what was predicted for a school with similar demographic characteristics within the state.

Underserved Student Performance: (10 %) This is a measure assessing learning outcomes only among Black, Hispanic and low-income students. It evaluates scores from underserved students on state assessments compared with the average for nonunderserved students in Ohio.

College Curriculum Breadth: (10%) This measures student success in AP classes across different subjects: English, math and computer science, sciences, world languages, history and social studies, arts, and AP capstone programs.

Graduation Rate (10%): This tracks the percentage of students who start ninth grade and graduate four years later.
