March 13, 2026

Dear Streetsboro Families, Staff, and Community Members,

At the Streetsboro Board of Education meeting on March 12, the Board approved a resolution authorizing additional reductions in force as part of the district’s ongoing financial stabilization efforts.

As previously communicated, the State of Ohio has placed Streetsboro City Schools in Financial Precaution status. This designation requires the district to take immediate and measurable steps to address identified financial concerns and ensure the long-term financial stability of our schools. As part of this process, the district must submit a formal financial recovery plan to the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce outlining the steps we will take to reduce expenditures and align our budget with projected revenues.

The reductions approved by the Board are part of that required plan. These decisions were not made lightly. District leadership and the Board carefully reviewed multiple options in an effort to protect classroom instruction and minimize the impact on students while still meeting the state’s financial requirements.

The reductions approved include:

Certified Staff (Streetsboro Education Association):

  • Technology Teacher (K–2)

  • Technology Teacher (Grades 3–5)

  • Instrumental Music Teacher – Streetsboro Middle School

  • Social Studies Teacher (Grades 9–12)

  • Spanish Teacher (Grades 9–12)

Support Staff (Streetsboro School Support Personnel Association):

  • Library Aide positions (3 total – Streetsboro Elementary, Henry Defer Intermediate, and Streetsboro Middle School)

  • Athletic Department Secretary

  • Office Aide – Streetsboro High School

  • Maintenance Secretary

In addition, the Board approved:

  • Reduction of the full-time Athletic Director position to part-time status beginning with the 2026–2027 school year

  • An increase in the athletic pay-to-participate fee to $300 per activity, with a $600 annual cap per student

The Board also approved the cancellation of the following extracurricular programs for the 2026–2027 school year, pending the outcome of the May 2026 levy:

  • Middle School Sports

  • Junior Varsity Sports

  • Freshman Sports

  • Extracurricular activities previously canceled by the Board in November 2025

We recognize that decisions involving staffing and program reductions are difficult and affect valued members of our school community. Our priority remains supporting our students while being responsible stewards of the district’s financial resources.

In the coming weeks, the district will continue working with the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce to finalize and submit our financial plan. We are committed to keeping our staff, families, and community informed as additional information becomes available.

As part of the district’s long-term financial planning, the Board of Education approved a resolution in February to place a 7-mill operating levy on the May 5, 2026 ballot. If approved by voters, the levy would provide funding beginning in January 2027 to support the district’s general operations, including staffing, instructional resources, student support services, transportation, and facility operations.

The reductions approved by the Board are necessary to ensure the district remains fiscally responsible and compliant with state financial requirements. Because the district must address its current financial situation and submit a financial plan to the State of Ohio now, these cost-saving measures are required to align expenditures with available revenue, regardless of the outcome of the May ballot issue. If voters approve the levy, the additional funding beginning in January 2027 would strengthen the district’s financial outlook and would allow the district to restore certain extracurricular programs in the Fall of the 2026-27 school year that are well attended and valued by students and the community.

The district will continue to evaluate its financial outlook and will keep the community informed about how future funding decisions may affect programs and services.

We appreciate the continued support of the Streetsboro community as we work through these challenges together.

Cindy Deevers
