Streetsboro Elementary School has been recognized for its outstanding commitment to literacy, earning the 2026 Governor’s Science of Reading Champion Award from the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce.

The award highlights schools across the state that demonstrate excellence in implementing the Science of Reading, an evidence-based approach to literacy instruction that strengthens student outcomes through structured, research-backed practices. Streetsboro Elementary was selected for its strong literacy framework and the consistent, high-quality implementation of these practices in the classroom.

“This has truly been a collaborative, team effort,” said Principal Gwen Abraham. “Our district leadership has been extremely supportive to make sure that our teachers have the resources necessary to provide the best quality instruction for students. We are excited to see how much our students are growing. It is such an honor to receive this recognition.”

This recognition adds to a growing list of recent accomplishments for Streetsboro City Schools. The district earned the Momentum Award in 2025, while Henry Defer Intermediate School received both the Momentum Award and a 5-Star rating. Streetsboro Middle School also earned the Momentum Award in 2025, with continued progress anticipated, and Streetsboro High School was recognized with a Momentum Award as well.

“This honor reflects the dedication of our teachers and staff who work every day to ensure students build strong literacy skills,” said Superintendent Cindy Deevers. “We are proud of the systems and supports in place that are helping our students succeed.”

The Governor’s Science of Reading Champion Award underscores Streetsboro Elementary’s commitment to providing high-quality instruction and fostering a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
