Streetsboro City Schools has reached new three-year agreements with both the Streetsboro Education Association (SEA) and the Streetsboro School Support Personnel Association (SSSPA), marking what district leaders described as a collaborative and solutions-focused negotiation process during a challenging financial period for the district.
District officials said the agreements reflect a shared commitment among school leadership and union representatives to work together to identify cost-saving measures while continuing to support students and staff.
“This process was built on communication, transparency and a shared understanding of the financial challenges facing our district,” said Superintendent Cindy Deevers. “I’m proud of the way everyone came to the table focused on finding solutions together and keeping students at the center of the conversation.”
Under the agreement with the SEA, teachers agreed to a 0-0-0 change in base salary over the three-year contract. Treasurer Brian Haines said that decision alone reduced projected district expenses by $725,284 over the next three years.
The agreement also includes changes to the district’s medical and prescription coverage plans, including a transition from a $250 individual/$500 family medical plan to a $1,000 individual/$2,000 family plan. In addition, both unions agreed to move from the district’s current RX A prescription plan to the RX E prescription plan.
According to Treasurer Brian Haines, the prescription plan change is projected to save the district approximately $424,600, while the transition to the new deductible structure is expected to save an additional estimated $860,000. Combined insurance-related savings are projected to total approximately $1.28 million beginning next school year.
Additional provisions in the agreement are also expected to help reduce operational costs while maintaining services for students and staff.
The district also reached an agreement with the SSSPA, which represents classified staff members. The classified staff agreement similarly includes adjustments to medical and prescription coverage plans, along with additional savings realized through calendar alignment measures.
Haines said the combined savings from the negotiated agreements with both unions are projected to exceed $2 million over the next three years.
Deevers said the agreements demonstrate the dedication of Streetsboro staff members to supporting the long-term stability of the district.
“These agreements reflect the professionalism and commitment of our employees and union leadership,” Deevers said. “Even during difficult circumstances, our staff has continued to prioritize the future of Streetsboro City Schools and the students we serve every day.”
